Euskalforging to supply Floatgen foundation rolled rings.

euskalforging awarded the full supply of the rolled rings for Floatgen floating offshore wind prototype

euskalforging, a world leading manufacturer of seamless rolled rings up to ∅10.000mm and 80Tn of input weight, with  turning, drilling and gear cutting capabilities and  three manufacturing plants in the North of Spain, has signed a contract to supply all the flanges for the foundation and the tower for the Floatgen project.

Built around a European consortium of 7 partners in the port of Saint-Nazaire, Floatgen is a floating wind demonstration project.

The project consists of a 2MW wind turbine mounted on a square ring-shaped concrete floating foundation, developed by Ideol.

The foundation will be installed off the coast of Le Croisic on the offshore experimentation site of the Ecole Centrale de Nantes (SEM-REV). This project, which enables the performance of the turbine and floating foundation combination to be evaluated in order to gain enough experience to prepare for the up-scaling of the foundation, is being supported by the European Union as part of the FP7 programme.

The launching of the floating foundation is expected for mid-2017 and the commissioning by the end of 2017.

Under the terms of the contract, euskalforging will fabricate and deliver the flange that will be integrated in the foundation with an outer diameter of 5.200 mm and the tower flanges ranging from 3.919 mm of outer diameter up to 5.200 mm.

euskalforging becomes a leader in the offshore wind floating market after participating in the early phases of development and later delivering seamless rolled rings for towers and foundations for projects such as Nenuphar, Hywind and Floatgen , while it continues its technological leadership and project execution capabilities in the offshore wind market with more than 35 offshore wind farms  in the last few years.
